Credit Card? You Got It: Verizon Offering Intuit GoPayment as Mobile Payment Solution

Credit Card? You Got It: Verizon Offering Intuit GoPayment as Mobile Payment Solution

While the world awaits the era of mobile payments conducted without credit cards and via NFC chips within our smartphones, several interim solutions have popped up to make it easier to use our pocketable devices at the point of sale. One such solution is GoPayment from Intuit, which is now being offered in Verizon retail stores nationwide. GoPayment, in the same vein as Square, is designed to help small businesses and individuals process credit card payments using only a small reader device, a mobile app, and your smartphone.

Samsung i9220 might have 5.29-inch 720p display

Leaks in the tech world do not involve any form of water, but rather, they are juicy bits and snippets – which is why Samsung's i9220 handset has plenty of rumors to go along with it. It is said that this particular make will feature a 5.29″ Super AMOLED Plus display at 1,280 x 720 resolution. This certainly contradicts what earlier reports point to – which is a less than stellar 4.5″ size, albeit at the same 720p level resolution. Will it be 5.29″ or 4.5″.

Canada: Samsung Galaxy Q officially launched by Fido

We've known that the Samsung Galaxy Q was headed to Fido ever since last month, and now it's finally out. Following in the footsteps of Rogers, Fido has officially launched the Samsung Galaxy Q today. The Samsung Galaxy Q is a lower-midrange Android-powered smartphone that has a side-sliding QWERTY keyboard as one of its key selling points. So this may make a good first smartphone for someone who's into texting and/or emailing a lot.

Aside from the keyboard, the Galaxy Q also has 3.2-inch 320x480 touchscreen, a 3-megapixel camera with video capture, Wi-Fi, GPS, 100 MB of internal storage space expandable via microSD, and 7.2 Mbps HSDPA.

Gaming for the gold: Na'vi take the first International Dota 2 Championships title

Pay homage to the kings of the International Dota 2 Championships, Na'vi. These six Ukrainian studs won $1 million over the five-day tournament held at Gamescom, followed by China's Ehome, who landed in second place. The top eight teams competed bravely, so show some respect as follows:. Handing out over $1.5 million to the people who love your game enough to make it a career seems like a wonderful advertising strategy from Valve. Maybe eventually it'll be altered to include people who love Valve's games but have day jobs too. Maybe.

TiVo talks cable, satellite deals in Q2 results; DirecTiVo exposed! (video)

TiVo's results for the second quarter are here and there were a few tidbits that let us know where its products are going in the future. Despite reporting a net loss for the quarter, its cash position was up after receiving the first $300 million payment from its settlement with Dish Network. Things appear to be going well with Virgin Media in the UK where it reported 50,000 TiVo's live by the end of July and ONO is closing in on a launch in Spain, while closer to home RCN is almost ready to officially offer a whole-home DVR setup based on the quad-tuner TiVo Premiere Q.

Forza Motorsport 4 shows the making of its Hockenheim track

Being a video game designer sounds like fun. And when the video game you're designing involves recreating famous racetracks from around the world, you're definitely having more fun than the average cubicle-dweller. The developers at Turn 10 Studios have to do exactly that for the upcoming Forza 4 video game. It's an interesting process, and Turn 10 has released a video showing us how it's done. It highlights the nearly three-mile-long Hockenheim circuit in Germany, which features 13 turns and plays host to both the German Grand Prix and DTM events.
We won't spoil the track-creation magic for you.

First 2012 Toyota Camry commercials look to burn up the interwebs

Toyota has finally pulled the wraps off its all-new 2012 Camry, and the marketing machine is now in full swing. The automaker is hitting the virtual airwaves with a trio of commercials highlighting its newest midsize sedan, as well as Toyota's love for NASCAR. Kyle Busch helps out with some smoky burnouts, high-speed driving and general information about the Camry Hybrid, and yes, that does seem a bit incongruous. The first spot posted after the jump is titled "Electrified", and shows the NASCAR Camry turning donuts before being hit with some electricity and turning into a Camry Hybrid.

Huawei Sonic reappears at the FCC, ditches AWS 3G and NFC functionality

If this is the same "T-Mobile Sonic" we saw a month back, it's safe to assume Huawei took the Gingerbread slab back to the drawing board and away from a Magenta debut. Popping up, once again, over at the FCC, and bearing a different model number - U8652 - the new Sonic sports a similar rounded-edge design, although this current incarnation takes on a definite rectangular shape. Gone are both the formerly included NFC functionality and AWS bands, in favor of quadband GSM, UMTS 850x1900x2100 bands, 3.2 megapixel rear-facing camera, WiFi and Bluetooth.

Garmin Vector: Measuring Power Right in the Heel of Your Foot

Garmin Vector: Measuring Power Right in the Heel of Your Foot

Apart from distance and calories burned, cyclists nowadays are obsessed to know the amount of power they exert on every ride. Don't worry, Garmin has a gadget for that. The Garmin Vector is a lightweight power meter that is integrated on a pedal. Not only it can provide accurate and reliable power data, but it also measures the power balance of the cyclist's right and left legs. The data will be sent to the Garmin Edge GPS or other compatible wireless receivers (as long as it is Garmin-made).

The Vector is portable, easy to use, and takes only minutes to install. It is a shame, however, that this device has a suggested price of $1,499.

As things ramp up for the debut of HTC's fall 2011 lineup, it's only natural that more HTC phones show up in the wild.  The latest phone to get exposed to the public is the HTC Bliss.  Verizon is expected to launch the HTC Bliss this fall as the first phone from HTC targeted directly at women.  We're not sure how well that marketing plan will go over, but we're certainly pleased with the look of the handset.   We're expecting the European launch of the HTC Bliss to feature a variety of handset colors and we certainly wouldn't be surprised if the phone made its debut on September 1st in London.

Nikon Coolpix S1200pj brings iOS support for projection capability

Nikon certainly broke new ground in the past with the integration of projector capability into a digital camera last year, with the S1100pj paving the way, and so, it is about time for an upgrade to the device, don't you think so. The company's next-generation projection camera is known as the Coolpix S1200pj, where it sports a brighter 20-lumens pico projector in addition to featuring support for iOS-powered devices – and that means iPads, iPhones and iPods are able to work with this particular shooter – all the way to a 60″ display.

Sony NEX-7: an amazing micro-camera

Sony NEX-7: an amazing micro-camera

Sony has just launched its latest and greatest high-performance compact camera. The NEX 7 takes over the top spot from the NEX 5, which has been updated as well. If you are not familiar with Sony's NEX line, the idea is to have the optical performance of a DSLR camera in a very compact body. The lenses are interchangeable as well.
In a nutshell Sony has designed the NEX7 to be “extraordinary” in Sony's own words. It has a 24 Megapixel EXMOR sensor, which is the same one used in the high-end Alpha a77 DSLR.

New Android Market leaked

New Android Market leaked

The Android Market might still be miles away from being on par with the App Store from Apple in terms of sales volume and number of apps, but that does not mean it has no strong following. In fact, the Android Market has been doing rather well for itself, and word has it that there will be a newer version of the Android Market. It wasn't long ago that we first saw the new Android Market grace our presence and become available for download. Well, there's a new version in town that brings a couple of new tweaks that are more than welcomed and that some people have been waiting for.

Windows Marketplace hits 30,000 apps

Another month, another milestone reached for Microsoft Windows Phone. It was back in July when we reported about the platforms app store, Windows Marketplace, hitting 25,000 apps, and now it has been reported to hit 30,000 apps. While it's still a way off from the 425,000+ iOS apps and 200,000+ Android apps available, for an operating system that's not even a year old - it's a pretty impressive feat. And the recent interest of webOS developers looking to migrate to the platform should help those numbers jump pretty quickly.
